Obituary for Donald J. Taylor

Donald James Taylor, age 89, passed away at his home on Monday, November 5, 2018.

Don was born to Edward and Eleanor (Stoddard) Taylor on May 28, 1929. He attended the Stevens Point Area Schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1947. He attended Mid-State Technical Institute and received an Associate's Degree in Business Accounting.

He joined the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. He served on the USS Salem stationed in the Boston Harbor from 1948 until he was honorably discharged in 1952.

While in the Navy, he met Mary (Betty) Cobb in Salem, Massachusetts. In July of 1953, they were married in Salem with Betty's Uncle, Father James McNeil, presiding over the wedding. Don and Betty eventually returned to Wisconsin and bought a home in Stevens Point.

Don worked in the business offices at Citizen's National Bank, Bake-Rite Baking Company, and later worked for the WI Job Center.

Don enjoyed being outdoors, spending time with all the dogs he loved throughout his life, working on his tree farm, selling Christmas trees, feeding the birds and squirrels, enjoying Wisconsin sports (including the Badgers and Packers), and working in his house and yard. He was also an active member of Saint Stephen Catholic Church and the VFW.

Survivors include his daughter, Cathleen of Marshfield; sons, Kerry (Lisa) of Stevens Point, Scott (Laurie) of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Brian (Sam), Nathaniel, Aaron, Benjamin, and Sarah; a brother, Robert; and a dear friend, Jane Gruendemann.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eleanor Taylor; wife, Betty Taylor; and sons, Brian and Christopher.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday November 12, 2018 at St Stephen Catholic Church with Rev. Jerzy Rebacz presiding. Visitation will be held at Boston Funeral Home on Sunday, November 11th from 12 Noon until 3:00 p.m. Visitation will also precede the funeral on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial with full military honors will be held at St Stephen Catholic Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all of Don's neighbors for their friendship and support (he always spoke very highly of all of you), his dog-walking buddies (something he loved very much), and a special thank you to those who came to his assistance on the day he passed away.
